Bowness in the Lake District, probably 1970s

Town in Lancashire

A picture of the town of Bowness in the Lake District – not sure of the date but probably the mid-1970s.

I didn’t initially recognise the town, but Steve points out in a comment below that this is Bowness. The picture has been taken from the viewpoint of a street cafe and looks out into the junction in the middle of this small town. Although the date is unknown, the picture shows a sunny day, so it is likely this was taken in the holiday season of one of the years in the 1970s.

This looks like it was taken in Bowness in Windermere, heres the Google street view image taken from roughly the same place.

    1. Hi Steve – Yes you are right, that’s it. Thanks, I’ll update the title.

The Bowness photo is taken from the beer garden of the Royal Hotel. I worked in the West End restaurant pictured every summer from ‘75 to ‘80. Happy, fun days!
